The Identity Exhibition (TIDE) - Madhouse is an immersive, multi-disciplinary exhibition that takes you through an enchanting world of what a home is.

The year 2020 undoubtedly defied expectations and predictions. It pushed people into changing how they live and think. We aim to redefine what home is during this pandemic, challenging our identity as artists and our role in society.

1. Visual Art

In a home setting, the language of furniture and objects are taken for granted, leaving only functionality to be the sole purpose of their existence. As the manufacturing industries are competing for cheaper, faster, and replaceable products, our sense of belonging is constantly being challenged. With the emergence of 3D printing and technological devices, these growing phenomena will lead to a scary thought: Are my family members replaceable? Can they be technologically manipulated if I do not like them? With this question in mind and the unique interpretation of the visual art director, furniture is re-purposed and recomposed that stand beyond their functionalities. They become a reminder of little moments we cherish in life. They become a surreal catalyst that aids our creative outbursts. They remind us to redefine who we are as humans, living in our homes.

“Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!”

Quoted from the movie, Alice in Wonderland, where the main character Alice has undergone so much change in so little time that she doesn’t even know who she is anymore. Rather than fretting over the situation, Alice considers her identity crisis to be a fun challenge, calling it a “great puzzle” to figure it out! One thing I realised is that, you should do what makes you happy. Don’t try so hard to fit into someone else's life when you are meant to stand out and be you.

DAUNTLESS portrays a strong, beautiful, confident and fun woman. She can be whoever she wants and there is never a boundary. Yesterday, she was a powerful woman, and today she is a child who is having fun and tomorrow she can be a lady who wants to enjoy a cup of tea while reading a book. The best part about your journey is that it is not crafted robotically, but it’s a plan, an impromptu plan!

3. Theatrical

The global pandemic has left people with no other choice but to spend a lot more time with themselves and their families. It was then that we began to redefine the word “home”, and learn what our heart desires.

This performance will bring out the troubles in life that we are all familiar with through the narration of four actors, based on the background of their role in the family: a young girl, a young man who has just entered society, the father as the head of the family, and the mother who takes care of everything. They each represent the dilemmas that the four age groups may encounter under the epidemic, and they will conduct their own "spiritual journey" within the four specific spaces at their home.
